Аutomatic filling of the windscreen washer tank with rainwater

On January 17 the world celebrates Children’s Inventions Day. On this day Benjamin Franklin, politician, scientist, writer and inventor, was born. He made his first invention – hand flippers – when he was 12 years old. In this series of publications we would like to recall some indispensable things of everyday use that were invented by children.

Brother and sister from Germany, Daniel (11 years old) and Lara Krohn (9 years old), came up with an idea to fill car windscreen washer tank with rainwater while driving. The idea came about during a family trip when the car ran out of washer fluid. Ford Corporation got interested in the children’s invention. Ford S-Max MPV was fitted with rubber tubes at the base of the windscreen to collect rainwater into a reservoir. Tests showed that the tank was filled with rainwater in less than 5 minutes while the car was in motion.

Perhaps Daniel and Lara’s invention will soon appear in all Ford cars, which will allow to save water resources.
