Galina Vashuk and Darya Lando from Lexpatent LLC have taken part in the WIPO Summer School

From July 19 to 30, 2021, Minsk hosted the World Intellectual Property Organization Summer School, which was organized within the framework of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the World Intellectual Property Organization, as well as in accordance with the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the field of intellectual property.

The Summer School Program included lectures, expert discussions, case studies, simulations and group work on intellectual property issues.

Galina Vashuk, Deputy Director of “LEXPATENT” LLC, Patent Attorney of the Republic of Belarus, and Daria Lando, PhD in Law, Head of the Legal Department of “LEXPATENT” LLC, participated as experts in the discussion on "Intellectual property and public health: current issues and challenges".

The main focus of the discussion was on the options for protecting pharmaceutical inventions, the legal consequences of not recognizing medical treatment methods as patentable, the problem of “evergreen” patents, the issues of protecting the exclusive rights of the right holder, the development of recommendations for pharmaceutical companies resident in the Republic of Belarus.

The discussion took place while addressing today's global intellectual property and public health challenges. The panel of experts also included representatives of the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Natalia Makeyeva, Executive Director, and Olga Chadina, Project Manager.

 Daria Lando also gave a series of lectures within the section “Intellectual Property as a Business Asset” (lecture topics: “National intellectual property policy for universities and research organizations”, “Contractual structures in intellectual property: innovations”). 

It is expected that participation in this project will enable students to acquire deeper knowledge in the field of intellectual property.
