Inventions that changed the world. Airplane

On December 17, 1903 the airplane "Flyer 1", built in the US by brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright took to the air and made the world's first sustained controlled flight. "Flyer 1" stayed up in the air for 59 seconds and flew 260 meters. Four adults and one village boy witnessed the flight, so it is well documented. In the early twentieth century many inventors tried to fly machines heavier than air, but those attempts either failed or were not witnessed.
