Svetlana Koroliova, Director of LEXPATENT LLC, patent attorney, was a speaker at the seminar "Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity"

A workshop dedicated to World Intellectual Property Day was held in Minsk on April 27, 2023. The workshop was organised by the State Committee on Science and Technology, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the National Centre of Intellectual Property, and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Svetlana Koroliova, patent attorney and Director of Lexpatent LLC, took the floor at the workshop with a presentation entitled "Intellectual Property Strategy as Part of a Company's Business Plan".

Svetlana spoke about the challenges that need to be addressed when developing an intellectual property strategy for the company.

The key takeaway from the presentation was to make a check-list of actions for strategic, i.e. prospective, real management of company's intellectual property.

Of these actions the following can be singled out as the main ones:

• conducting an audit of intellectual property objects (IPO) owned by the company
• ensuring safe use of IPO;
• carrying out timely registration of IPO rights;
• informing third parties about the company's IPO rights;
• monitoring the market and enforcing IPO rights;
• ensuring confidentiality of IPOs;
• developing and meeting special requirements in human resources policies;
• raising awareness of IP within the company;
• building a dedicated team to deal with IPO.
